WebTissue samples were collected intra-operatively from 5 patients undergoing revision surgery due to aseptic loosening of a metal-on-metal hip replacement (ASR hip resurfacing system, DePuy, Warsaw, Indiana, USA). Diagnosis of loosening was based on patient’s complaints, clinical examination and by conventional x-ray and/or CT-scan. WebA ceramic hip resurfacing arthroplasty (HRA) and 20 tantalum beads were implanted into a synthetic hip model and mounted onto a 6-degree of freedom motion stage. The hip was repeatedly scanned with a low dose CT protocol, with imposed micromovements. Data were interrogated using a semiautomated technique.
